About the WORC

The Western Oregon Radio Club is an Amateur Radio club located with in the Portland Metropolitan area of Oregon.  The club operates radio repeaters to provide coverage to Northwest Oregon and Southwest Washington for the purposes of regular amatuer communications as well as emergency communications and NETS.

The club utilizes Microwave based ethernet services as well as conventional RF links to interconnect repeaters in unique and flexible ways.  The system of Amateur repeaters cover the following bands: 10 meters, 6 meters, 2 meters, 70cm, 33cm, 23cm.  In addition the club also provides and supports two (2) GMRS repeaters for use by the general public that are licensed for GMRS.

The club also provides FM radio coverage into the Greater Washington County area and broadcasts music and amateur related information if interest to the community.  In addition this radio station may broadcast information from Public Safety Officials in times of Practice and Emergencies.

The club also provides Voice over Internet Protocols including Echolink, IRLP and AllStar nodes.

Weather alert monitoring and reporting of NOAA weather emergency alerts and warnings.

There is a Star repeater stack at one location that may be linked into the FM repeater network as may be needed.

Currently the club has no regular hosted nets but we are seeking individuals whom want to utilize the system to reach out to the Amateur Radio Community to provide amateur related subjects of interest.  A weekly NET is planned… but we are still recruiting a person to host the WORC NET WORC to provide status and updates about WORC club or system status/issues.   If interested in running such a net please contact the WORC at our email address (WORC.KISN@gmail.com).

The WORC system is OPEN and available to all Amateur Radio Operators.  We do provide priority use to Emergency management for training, exercises and actual emergencies.   The system has a regular role in the District ARES plan and has been active during exercises and real emergency activities.
